How To Remove Lower a Arm Bushes.
The standard metalastic (Rubber and metal) bushes inserted into the lower rear A arms of the lotus elan can be difficult to remove with out the correct tools.
Any one who has attempted to remove the bushes with nothing more than a bit of pipe and a large hammer will admit that it’s not that easy, and considerable damage can be done to the A arms and bushing housings during the process.
It does not have to end in tears, there is an easier way, and we’ll show you how.

To carry out this job in the home workshop, you will need, at a minimum, a ten or twelve ton workshop press… OK, you don’t have one.
Well, perhaps you know of someone who has.
You will also need access to a lathe to machine the small press tools and mandrels, but please don’t be alarmed, this is all very basic engineering, and not really beyond the DIY home mechanic, and worth it if you want to learn more about your lotus elan and how to maintain it for less cost.
