26R-S2 Elan Hard To Find Parts.

Now that the earliest of the Lotus elan is more than fifty years old, there are certain parts peculiar to the early models that are rare and hard to find. Take Charlie Green from the USA who has been restoring his treasured S2 for several years, in fact he has owned the car for forty years, and slowly but surely, the project is going well, but there was two important parts that had Charlie could not procure for love nor money, he spent years looking for these parts, but they remained elusive… I’ll let Charlie take up the story.

The chassis number i have found out is the last, but one S2 before they changed over to the S3 (fixed window frames). In truth it has spent many years off the road. I kept getting side tracked with other projects.

But your S2 window lifts have been illusive up until now. I spent many a year going to specialist shows and Lotus auto jumbles with no luck. As you know, they are an exclusive item to the S2 & 26R (as far as i know).

The window lifts we reproduce are an exact replica of the oirginals, while the original items were cast from bronze, we cast the replica items in Aluminium. Originally pressure die cast using expensive machinery and special tools and dies. Because of the exorbitant cost of manufacturing new dies, the reproduction window lifts are hand moulded and cast at our own foundry in Australia, post casting operations require removing the finials and flashings, then they are manually finished and buffed to a mirror finish, the only machining operation is the drilling of two holes into the inside lift for the pegs that pass through the glass to engage in, then they are ready to install onto the S2 or 26R windows, beautiful pieces of window jewellery to put the finishing touch to your elan.
