Introducing The Brand New 26R Hybrid CVDS Lotus Elan Drive Shaft.
This hybrid design drive shaft design incorporates a combination of the normal elan three bolt spider adapter plate which is bolted to the outer wheel hub axle, the unique design inner four bolt adapter plate is fastened to the inner 26R differential out-put shaft.
The GKN Lobro CV joints are identical to the world class elantrikbits CVDS conversion for the road going lotus elan.
This new product was born from a customer request to retro fit a compatible CVDS system into his race prepared lotus elan.
The project required a considerable amount of CAD design time to utilize both inner and outer CV joints that would NOT lock at full droop and produce a product with reliable drive for ultra competitive race conditions…
This product has been since race proven to deliver the goods, and is now available for other elan owners who may have a Three Bolt – Four bolt Drive Line connection in their elan.
The Hybrid-CVDS will operate through large drive line angles and NOT suffer from the dreaded CV lock up – There is no requirement to employ suspension travel limiting cables or straps.
This design provides a positively smooth driving experience and 100% reliability, which has been race proven.
Our customer’s preference was for CV joints, rather than “run of the mill” old school U/Joints and sliding spline style of driveline.
The bonus is that modern automotive technology has provided the amazing (CV) Constant Velocity Joint –
Designed To Deliver Constant Velocity rotation without being inhibited by driveline angle variations, or suffer from annoying vibrations, which can occur with U/Js.
Outer CVDS Three Bolt (Std) Adapter-Plates.
The rugged tri-shaped outer adapter plates (Above) are standard elantrikbits parts. The splined intermediate shafts are CNC machined from high quality alloy axle steel, but the intermediate shaft length differs to that of the standard half shaft.
The image above illustrates the four bolt 26R type adapter plates, CNC machined to accept the CV joint – The head of each of the four 3/8″ HT bolts are secured with a unique locking system to prevent rotation when tightening the Nyloc nuts.
Designed, engineered, and built in Australia, then air freighted across the globe to the UK.
This new CVDS design was installed into our customer’s elan without a hitch, the UK customers elan was prepared and raced at the recent Silverstone Classic in July, and lately at Croft, and Oulton Park.
We are looking forward to our customer experiencing continued competition success with the new 26R Hybrid CVDS drive line.

Hi Col,
I just want to say thank you for the CVDS. It fitted to the car perfectly, no fiddling around, I just removed the old shafts complete and bolted the complete new shafts in place. The engineering is beautiful and even on full unlimited droop (a situation I hope we will never reach!) there is no binding whatsoever. Acceleration is smooth during all driving states, cornering and straights, and the added reliability of the CVDS will mean one less component to worry about during the race season.

Please Note: This product will only be of interest to elan owners who may have the four bolt inner (Diff) output shaft, and have the U/Js driveline fitted.
This CVDS design does not replace our existing elantrikbits CVDS product.
